Monday 6th May and its Bluebirds Last Birthday Hash! A cool evening at Maidencombe… the sea mist had been around all day! Bluebirds instructions were the usual mix of the good the bad and the dangerous! Starting with who would assist him in recovering his precious rope which he had left dangling on a sheer cliff face! ( No volunteers stepped forward!) Also a “boat” would be used for the Drinks stop this sounded good! Off we set over fields to Brunel Woods to where we should have climbed down to the beach for the drinks stop, but this idea had been abandoned on safety grounds!! On down now on road to Watcombe beach where after a climbing and scrabbling session over many large boulders we reached the next Cove where Bobbiball and the “boat” a one man canoe! were waiting with the beer and Pringles. Forest had a swim before our photo call then further instructions were given to get us back! 1, Scramble up a steep mud slide! 2, Swim around the headland or 3,Go back over the boulders, we all took the latter! Back at Watcombe Beach a rope rescue team was selected, this rope was probably the planned route back up but judging from the cuts and bruises on the rescue team afterwards this route was reluctantly!! abandoned. Eventually back at the Thatched Tavern after recovery drinks and chips! Among the DDs were awards to "Manpig" for his natty dress sense ? "Wide Receiver" for forgetting his trousers! and to " Bluebird" for his very Last Birthday Hash.??
ON -ON to our AWARDS NIGHT at Chudleigh next Monday!
