Monday 10th Feb at the Orestone Manor Hotel and its
time for Bluebirds Fire Hash! The evening moon shone brightly out and it was
not raining! as we formed up at the Hotel for the “destructions!” There would
be L/S splits and marks in the usual cat litter, if we ran out of marks? wait
for the flaming beacon to guide us!. No Beer stop/ or sweet stop, but we
discovered later the there would be Mulled wine and Bailey ’s
to revive us. With the assistance from some of the Orestone’s “family” we headed off into the
night ….we followed the litter trail over styles across fields, squelching
through deep red shiggy, avoiding fallen trees and then down into Maidencombe.
Somehow some of us lost the trail and missed the Mulled wine,
but after an alternative steep gasping climb to the top of the fields we met up
with most of the pack. No marks now, so from this high
point we scanned the darkness for a Flame? there it
was on a distant hill! Followed as soon as we reached it by several more, it
was easy going downhill but to get to some those beacons some required a
gasping uphill slog! Although Wide R and Manpig ahead of us now, had
disappeared with the Baileys at the final beacon they were
soon spotted behind a hedge where we recovered the bottle and dispensed a reviving
shot of the very tasty Irish Cream and Whiskey liqueur. We headed back now and
looking out to sea it was almost the calm after the storm with the lights from
the sheltering ships shining brightly. “On Home” and as we entered the Orestone
Manor with its highly polished wooden floor and luxury furnishings we decided
that this was the style that we should adopt for more of our venues! The beer
was good and the lasagne excellent especially from the silver server! DD’s were
awarded to the following offenders to SATNAV, heard calling out that she could
not “get it in” etc, as she struggled with Boggy’s car door lock.
To yours truly WINFIELD for
being “under the thumb” last week and missing the Hash then to BLUEBIRD for
“setting the bar” so high tonight for future On Downs
followed by a second nominated DD from Rent Boy. Finally to MELON PICKER as he
had at last reached his 600 Runs badge! Well done to Blue Bird and a big thank
you to the team from the Orestone Manor who assisted and spoilt us this evening.
