Mon
31st March at the Artichoke Christow. “A 12th Century Inn , with
a Thatched roof and all the original character of the time when the Crusaders
used to visit”, last night it was the time for the return of TVH3 !
A good turnout, with many
returning, for the first run after the clocks had “changed” and it was dry!
Forest and Forest H’s trail to be at lease 7 miles on the long with numerous
checks and a “Fish Hook” turn, started with a steady uphill climb and a
pleasant run through the parish church yard. Another climb along the lanes
started, I was accompanied by local boy SLACKER who warned me that it was not
going to get easier for some time! Eventually the Fish Hook brought some of the
FRB’s back to us and we had a chance to breathe again as we reached the
downhill section. We were soon in dark woodlands near Hennock reservoir and
time to turn on the lights as we searched for the winding trail which led us into
the thick muddy tracks of the logging vehicles PARAPRICK and I tried to stay
mud free but in the end it was pointless. There were more checks a farm yard
and a scramble over wall ladders, beside what sounded like a raging river
before we emerged back in to open countryside for the final down hill charge On
Home.
The landlady who had Hashed
in Dubai, opened this excellent old pub up specially for
us this evening and laid on food at a minimal cost. It was good to see PORK TORPEDO and
HORNIE, who was looking good, had been able to make it to the pub. Time for the
DD’s to FOREST for arranging the pub and the trail, he nominated FOREST HUMP
for her invaluable assistance, there was a DD to MANPIG who had forgotten his
shoes, and one for the Landlady as she was a Hasher!
SOAPY’S excellent prize winning cake
was then eagerly sampled by the waiting pack and it tasted as good as it looked
…delicious !
The Hares get their reward for a great trail, Forest H wished that hers was a gin and tonic!
