The Words - Monday 9th February 2026.
Hare – Beeflicker with help from SMellie and Lucy.
Circle / OD – The New Quay, Teignmouth
After yet another wet, miserable February day the pack assembled outside The New Quay beneath an unexpectedly starry sky.
Mostly present at the circle were:
Beeflicker,
Coldtitz, Forest Stump, Gorgy P Orgy, Hunk of Beef, Manpig, MissMash,
Pisswell, Piltdown Man, Pollyfella, SMellie, Smash, T&G, Wet Fart
and Woodlend.
Other attendees:
Missing
at the circle but spotted out on the trail, whilst doing the trail in
reverse, was Psycho. And at the pub after a ten+ year absence we found
Larks Vomit.
At
the circle Piltdown announced there were only 6 more dark hashes before
the clocks went forward and Smellie asked for hares for March onwards.
Then
it was over to the hare who told us that there was a short walker route
that would go past a lot of pubs if anyone wanted a pub crawl. The
shorts would be about 3 miles and the longs about 4.5 miles. He
explained the longs would need to go short when they looped back to the
first long / short split following where the one the walkers split from
the rest of the pack.
And
then we were off. Initially along back beach past The Ship and along
to the ferry stop. From there the trail went up and across The Point
car park and past the pier. We could hear the waves hitting the sea
defences and the Pier creaking (!) as we processed along the sea front
to a sweetie stop beside East Cliff Café. Here SMellie was waiting for
us with treats to sustain us on the journey ahead.
From
the sweetie stop we ran to the steps beside the yacht club and ascended
to join the narrow road leading to Eastcliff Park. Here the walkers
split. The aim was for the shorts and longs to go to the top of the
park. Woodlend, T&G and Pollyfella missed the marking for the
shorts/longs and took the lane to the top of the park. From there they
headed down the path in the park until they met the rest of the pack who
were “on trail” thanks to some hastily added marks by Beeflicker.
The trail looped round the top of the park and then out to the Dawlish Road where we found the long / short split.
The
split sent the longs up the hill until they found an arrow sending them
right, down a muddy path to Cliff Road. From here the trail returned
the longs back down into Eastcliff Park. Arrows in the dark led the
longs to the long / short split for the second time meaning now it was
time to head down hill on the short trail.
The
trail led past the railway station where Pyscho was found by Beefy and
Pollyfella. She was going the wrong way round the trail having not been
able to find the marks at start of the trail after arriving a bit late.
From here the trail led past St James Church and up through narrow residential streets to the footbridge over Exeter Road.
Then
it went along Landscore Road followed by paths leading down to the
crossing at Bitton Park Road. Finally it was over the “cage bridge” and
down to the back of the docks where the OD marks showed we were nearly
at the pub.
The On Down
At
the pub we were greeted by the sight of Larks Vomit and his
inappropriate hound Cosmo. This was Larks’ first hash for over 10 years
and a treat to see an old hash friend.
Beeflicker
also revealed that he had been ably assisted in laying the trail
earlier in the day by his new friend Lucy who despite never having
hashing before had still gamely helped him out despite the relentless
rain. Hopefully we can welcome Lucy to the pack in the near future.
Down Downs
- T&G for wearing pink knickers one week too early!
- Larks Vomit for having a “dirty dog!”
- Pisswell for moving her car just a few metres closer to the OD after finishing the trail and also for throwing eggs at Forest over the weekend!
- Forest for not following the trail nor looking for it properly!
- And Beeflicker who took the water down down for being an excellent hare and laying a fab trail!
So
a big thank you to Beeflicker for tonight’s trail. We had lots of
variety and lots of fun out there. A great effort given the weather
during the day.
Thank you also to his assistants, SMellie for organising the pub and sweetie stop and Lucy for helping to lay the trail.
And incredibly we managed to stay dry!!!
