Monday 1st
of July Cridford Inn, Trusham
Exactly half way through the year 182 days gone 183 days to go
Only 176 days till Christmas
A warm, pleasant evening. A packed car park at the historic Cridford Inn, Trusham; possibly the oldest pub inDevon dating back to 1086 and the time of the Domesday Book. The
two resident ghosts make no appearance this evening but we number over forty
without them. Three virgins are introduced and given a floury blessing by
Teapot.
Our two experienced hares Forest Stump andHeidi have laid a devious and complicated
trail about which Forest himself finds it difficult to provide clarity . Omissions of fishhooks
and trip hazards go unpunished in the pub although Forest is painfully reminded of the trip
hazards en route through the leafy glades.
Bramble Brook proves to be a jump too far for 69, Melon Picker, Bin Laden and Slacker but Wigwam stumbles down a bank and up to his waist into the thalweg of the brook.
With cries of encouragement fromForest the brook is leapt by the hesitant hashers and most of
their fearless followers. A pretty woodland trail with some strength sapping
climbs culminating in a soft fruit stop is negotiated leaving the pack spread
out. Everyone arrives back eventually to recount their tales. Wide Receiver of
diving through nap weed to find the underlying nettle bed; severe nettle rash
followed. Joystick cries innocent on being accused of using his bike to get
back so early to the pub. Poacher cheerfully admits he crossed the river four
times instead of only twice and accuses the hare of setting the trail wrong.
Plucker has to confess he’d brought no change of clothes. Piddlers voice was heard
all around the trail calling people back off what was often the correct route.
Rearender ensured she would not get lost by wearing luminescent shorts. She
also was impressed by the fit looking hashers she encounters on her arrival;
she was in the rugby training ground (by mistake?!) Free drink! Wigwam races
Bluebird up Trusham Hill and with the aid of a lift he wins not only the
contest but also a down-down. Awards also to 69, Forest Stump, Bluebird for
dressing like Beetlejuice, or was it a liquorice allsort? And Hi de Hi for
slipping on something.
