Mon. 13th August and it’s the first “Lay” for Fiddler and
Thatch in their home territory at Moretonhampstead. It was especially good to
see that Pacemaker and sons along with Big Issue had made the Circle all the
way from Honiton.
The home pair had produced an excellent 90% off road virgin trail, which Deep
Semen informed me was 7 miles long, although he did often chase after his dog!
After a short circuit of the town we were soon on footpaths winding upwards through woodlands, across steams and open fields, then heading through tall bracken where I’m sure I heard someone call Fukawe! There were many excellent view points from this trail with the final upwards climb up to the huge Iron Age hill fort of Cranbrook Castle positioned high above the gorge at Fingle Bridge, from up here views stretched almost to the sea and in the other direction to north Dartmoor.
After running around the sides of the long ramparts it was back down hill towards Moreton. and a much needed Sweet Stop manned by Thatch, before we finally reached the M25! of Moreton and then a brisk run to On Home.
In the OD good atmosphere of Union Inn we revived ourselves with a few beers and cheesy chips before the DDs. Here Thatch and Fiddler enjoy the DD's.....Fukawe for getting lost in the bracken, Fiddler for an excellent trail, Paraprick his 50 Runs Badge and Desperate HW the FIX IT shirt for something to do with that huge dog! but she split most of it, which was quickly lapped up by KC....
A pause on the down hill run back to Moretonhampstead
