Always a difficult place to find a parking spot, but
eventually our Circle formed up outside the Palk Arms Hennock where we welcomed
back “Fishbait” and were introduced to virgin Hasher “John”. Off we set on Deep
Semens trail, also assisted? by Poacher. (He didn’t want that first fishhook
Poacher!). No mention was made of the Gruffalo although at one point on the 5
mile + trail his name was spelt out in flour. Daylight was with us for a short
time until we entered the “Deep dark woods” a quote from the Guffalo ( a great
kids story by Julia Donaldson) we were soon slipping and sliding on the muddy
and tracks, dodging fallen trees and mossy rocks following a trail with minuscule amounts of
flour with plenty of checks and splits to slow us, before we reached the sweet
stop, it was a very warm night!. There were some crashing and groaning sounds
around us, but not the Gruffalo, just falling Hashers as we pressed on. Eventually
after a testing run through the “Deep dark woods” we saw his name and a shadowy
a figure, this could be him? and his “favourite food is toasted Hashers” we
quickly moved on!
Back in the safety of
the Palk Arms, with a reviving beer and baguette, it was time to bring forward
the DD candidates. First nomination was to Coldtiz for her theatrical fall but
she was missing had she been taken by the Gruffalo?
Next was Bin Laden selected
by Satnav for allowing a bramble to almost cut her in half! This followed by
Wide Receiver for a dramatic slide on his rear end! A farewell DD to Mohican, he
is off to Oman ,
to lose tourists in the desert. One to yours truly for not understanding that a
Poacher cross on the right of a trail does not mean that the left is also a
false trail ?? Finally Coldtiz, who had not been eaten, did appear for her DD although
there was a loud growling sound outside !!
