Mon 14th Oct there
we all were at the Newfoundland Way CP Newton Abbot, fully kitted up for Archangel’s
trail, but word reached us eventually via Man Pig’s very long rambling speech
that Archangel was on an “Offenders” course…well this was going to be his first
offence!
The trail had been laid on
Sunday but after the rain would we find it?
First clue “it is an up hill start” so we
promptly run up the nearest hill… wrong!
“On-Back” then finding some
huge flour arrows, quite freshly laid ? leading us along Wolborough St. then up narrow footpath to Wolborough Church .
With the church bells ringing loudly in our
ears we headed off road across the fields following a very faint trail towards
Decoy Woods, there at the edge of the woods a split trail “where’s the marks”
Piddler asked! Fortunately “Indian tracker” Rearender spotted flour and quickly
deciphered it as an “arrow left”, otherwise we could have followed some of the
FRBs who had charged straight on into the woods. Following the faint marks we
finally reached the Wolborough Church L/S split the longs headed long the high
top ridge in a strong breeze, with some excellent views over the bright lights
of Newton below us. Back at the CP a strange figure calling
On-On was spotted sprinting past from the left then from the right it looked
like Bluebird?
What a pleasant surprise as
we entered the OD at Teign Cellars East Street, a place that most of us had
never visited, a very clean pub with a welcoming landlord and his staff, (see
photo) a wide selection of excellent real ales, including Neap Tide at £1:85,
to wash down the excellent sausage and chips he served up for us. Offenders
selected for Down-Downs were Bluebird (it was him!) for going to the wrong pub.
Man Pig for verbal diarrhoea, Deep Semen for tripping up
