Mon December 30th: Newfoundland Way CP, OD Teign Cellars East Street , Newton Abbot. After laying all those trails throughout 2013,
it was very unfortunate that Poacher was unable to lay this one at the very
last minute, but Archangel stepped in to re-do the trail that he had planned weeks
earlier.
As he was still out laying
at Circle time it was my pleasure to welcome the pack to The Last Chance Trail
of 2013 which included one male “Virgin” brought along by UBend .The Run
started almost a chaotically as it did last time from here, as Manpig
identified a faded car park exit arrow as the trail taking half the pack off in
the wrong direction! (this was duly noted for a later!) The correct well marked
trail led us along Wolborough Street , up alleyways, hills, through undergrowth on narrow
footpaths to the high ridge overlooking the town with the excellent sight of
all the Christmas lights shining out brightly
below us. Archangels trail turned
out to be almost the reverse of his last planned run as we passed through
Wolborough church yard but no bells ring this time! We were soon heading
through Decoy woods where although it was possible to avoid the water for some
time eventually it was “wall to wall” so a good time to wash off all that mud!
Only to get even muddier slipping and scrambling across the fields later! Thankfully
we were on road (sorry Rambo) with chance to pick up speed as we headed back
towards the Car Park.
The Teign Cellars was busier
this time, but the landlord was happy to supply us with some excellent sausages
and chips and a wide choice of beers.
The offenders from the
evening were then given their DD’s, as reported by Bluebird. With his School background Rambo pointed out
to me a large Periodic Table chart on the wall of the pub?? this one did not
refer to Chemical Elements it showed Beer Styles probably much easier to
remember? On On into 2014 Winfield
