Monday 16th our Christmas
Party Hash at Bovey Tracey , organised this year by Soapy and Melon Picker with
the dress code "Song Titles” As we gathered in The Dolphin there were more
and more excellent variations of Song Title costumes arriving. It was certainly
not easy to “Guess that Song” and as we downed our first complimentary drink many
clues were needed before each Song was finally revealed! On our way from
Teignmouth we had not been sure that all of Piltdown’s “99 Red Balloons” outfit
would fit in the Taxi but somehow they and we, all squeezed in!
Soon it was off on trail,
along the festively lit streets of Bovey, where startled residents wondered
what on earth was happening in their quiet town! After several checks and a few
red balloons floating away, the next stop revealed itself…The Cromwell Arms. We
packed in for a reviving drink, after all we had run at least ½ a mile! Song
sheets were distributed and on the count of 3 we burst into our first Carol thank goodness I had my Castanets handy to help keep time! After several
numbers, on again and another testing run took us ¼ mile to the Bell , the ex landlord here was Hasher “Quasimodo ”! With another reviving complimentary
drink loud popping sounds as “99 Balloons” were soon down to about 59. It was time
now for the traditional “12 days of Christmas” carol, which Soapy had adapted
to her own Hash wording (see photo) this was fully supported in very full
volume by the pack.
On Home and all down hill
now to the Riverside Mill, where after DD’s to the 4 birthday boys Oggie,
UBend, Hotlips and Manpig , we filled ourselves with the excellent food from
the carvery . As the beat rose the dancing was soon in full swing with some amazing
unseen steps that would surely shamed “Strictly” At the end all agreed that it
had been an excellent evening.
Very well done to Soapy and Melon Picker!
