Mon 5th May at the Model Village CP, Babbacombe.
As
I cleaned out the grit and stones from my soaking trainers this morning, I remembered
what it had been like the previous evening, as I had tried to wade ashore, clinging
onto the cliff face as the tide swept in near Petit Tor Point !
It had been a damp but mild evening as we
formed a circle at the Model Village CP along with two returning Hashers Craig
and Laura from the Orestone Manor and it had
also been no surprise to most of us that the mystery “Hare” was in fact
Bluebird aided by Bobby Ball . After his
usual few words! this time about a chasm that had opened up along the trail, we
should have realised then what lay ahead of us! After crossing Babbacombe Downs
it was on down to Ansteys Cove and a hastily rearranged Beer Stop. Bluebird was
getting anxious now and we soon found out why! I had decided to join the contingent
that were curious to see the” The Stone Field of Petit Tor” and after clambering over huge boulders
at the cliff point dodging the waves, we turned towards the beach near Petit Tor,
but with the incoming tide there was now a stretch of sea between us and the
beach. Wide R. started to swim for it but then remembered his car keys may be
damaged. We clung to the cliff face and gradually waded in over the rocky
depths, except for Craig ’s dog Brock
who thought about diving in but in the end had to be carried ashore by Laura . It was “On
Up” now on a steep gasping climb to Petit Tor downs from here there was a view
over the Stone Field but it
had been to dangerous to try to cross it, instead a final good run in back to the
CP.
At
the Orestone Manor OD there was a warm welcome from the owner Neil
who
had provided us with an excellent Lasagne, salad and garlic bread at a nominal cost.
Bluebird who had attended a Residents meeting while we enjoyed our food re-appeared
just as the DDs were underway these were
awarded to WIDE RECEIVER for diving in the sea with his car keys !
