September I was the emergency Hare for this weeks Trail choosing to
start and finish at the Obelisk CP Mamhead in Haldon Forest. It took
me several visits to devise a route to give the pack some varied
terrain and then 7 bags of flour to mark it so that no-one would get
lost as it would be very dark under those trees. On a beautiful
autumn evening a good sized pack set off, including the returning
DUMBER, first stop the Obelisk view point for a photo call for at
least some who were already there. There were 3 L/S splits and the
Sweet Stop to come as we headed with DORIS taking the long as usual,
while BLUEBIRD resumed his determination to get ahead of WIDE
RECEIVER but the canny Hasher chose all the right routes at the
checks tom stay ahead. The pack found its way through the deep
woodland and past the woodland shelter where DRAG ACT had a pit stop!
Next we were in the very dark valley where a spring rises to become
the Dawlish Brook after a scramble up the slope the Pack were on the
last lap now Sweeping up at the rear on the last Long with RAMBO
DORIS and DEEP SEMEN who had no torch! I realised that I had not
marked the last Short section! but they had all made it Home.At the On-Down
Bishop Lacey Chudleigh and a much needed drink, the DD's then
commenced before we able to enjoy our supper the superb “Special”
wrapped Fish and Chips! Offenders selected
this week were DUMBER for not having a torch, COLDTITZ for not
finding the Obelisk Car park on her map?she was later seen holding an Oceanography chart ??WINFIELD for taking
12hours sussing and laying the trail, MELLON PICKER once again can't
remember why this time?
