Who ate our flour ?
Mon 29th at the Anchor Inn Chudleigh Knighton, for Wide Receiver's post
Christmas trail. Or should it have read “inside” the Anchor Inn? as it
was a very cold evening, unlike the Run last year when the village was
almost cut off by floods! At our circle inside the pub, visitor “Olive” a
male pal of “Popeye” was introduced before the Hares instructions of
“one and on, mind the ice, there is a RIVER! crossing Oh ! and lookout
for the Mouse who was seen eating the flour
this afternoon” a roaring fire did for a moment! tempt us to linger
longer here, but off we set. Around the village on a cunning trail that
led us back and forth then down a lane which was like the ice rink at
Bristol where I gave an exhibition of how to fall! Out on to Bovey Heath
next where Drag acts marks from 2 weeks ago could still be seen in
places, but at least that clinging mud was now frozen, It was Crunch
crunch underfoot as we weaved around over the frozen ice and bracken,
eventually coming back into the village to a very welcomed hot Mulled
Wine Stop served up at Wide's abode by Candy Stripe and Tight Lips,
along with some excellent frozen sweets. On-on again back under the
Express Way, through woodland and then that “RIVER” crossing, which
turned out to be a stream! somewhere here Rear Ender saw the shadow of
the “Big bad Mouse” in the moonlight happily eating our supply of flour!
Later back inside the Anchor the warmth of that roaring fire was good
and that reviving beer, the landlord had laid on his usual excellent
sausage and chip supper for us. As some Hasher’s had already left due to
the fast returning frost DD's were postponed until next week. Well done
Wide Receiver for an excellent trail, our thanks also to Candy Stripe
and Tight Lips for serving up the Mulled Wine and sweets on a cold
night.
On On to next week Mon 5th January 2015 at the Newfoundland Way
