Mon 21st Sept at CP on Dunstone Down high above Widecombe for SLIP on ME
and BRENDA's trail, what started as a bright sunny evening soon changed
as we reached Dunstone Moor where it was pretty chilly in a strong cold
breeze so no time to hang about at the circle. The Hares gave us a
briefing on what was to follow ? “ 7.5 miles !! but there is a shorter
route of about 3, we ran a bit short on flour so keep going on the lane?
there is a fruit stop but that's on the long and there
only 3 checks !! ” Heading off out across the moor we soon lost the
trail at the first check “was this that no marks area” ? confusion
reigned but eventually we found it! on up now to the 1st L/S split,
most did not fancy a 7.5 miler, but first I did! along with WIDE, DAMP
PATCH, and LUCY winding our way up and down narrow footpaths with so
many options a real need to call ON-ON as those marks where well spread
out, at the second check a heard of roaming black bullocks were quite
interested in our fun and decided to join in as we tried to find the
trail. Up and down lanes and tracks we sped it was getting very dark now
glad to have a bright lamp to search for the elusive flour. Eventually
finding we found a well marked trail taking us back across the moor to
the only two remaining cars in that CP! It was very warm and inviting
inside the Rugglestone where the pack just about managed to cram into
one room for the DD's which were awarded to :-
MELLON PICKER as navigator going to the Pub first instead of the Moor !
SLIP on ME for using up all that flour ! ( but it was a great trail)
