As Soapy and Mellon Picker were sunning themselves in Blackpool it was my pleasure to welcome into our Circle two virgin Hasher’s (who enjoyed the trail and we hope to see them again) also LEGLESS (sister of DAMP PATCH) previously named by Stannary H3. With dark clouds gathering we set off on what was said to be a 4s or 6L mile trail but at the “stewards enquiry” later the pack said 5 or 7.5, but it was a great testing run and those torches were certainly needed later. After we circled the village climbed a rocky Simms Hill, TEA POT and WET FART were trying to avoid getting muddy and wet along the flooded Lenda track before it was down and then up another steep uphill to the Narracombe Farm junction where here some of the pack lost the trail and headed back. But the intrepid few managed to find their way along Green Lane to the open moor then down into the valley where was time for torches as UBEND and I with DAMP PATCH and LEGLESS picked our way through the woods to 69s abode and a welcoming glass of excellent Sangria with splash of rain! This rain was getting very heavy now so on-on through the storm downhill and back into Ilsington. In the bar it was good to see DESPERATE HW, RENT BOY and young Bertie had joined us.A chance to dry off have a beer and some tasty chips although WET FART ate most of mine!
Down Downs were awarded to the following offenders:-
WIDE RECEIVER- for calling the trail long, but he had run 5.5 miles to get here!
SATNAV – for quietly confiding that she had washed her feet in the loo sink!
RAMBO- for complaining that the pub and important toilet was not open until 7:30!
69- for his trail calculations and Sangria in the rain? this was defiantly not Spain!
Well done 69 for an excellent evening we even enjoyed the run in in the rain!
On-On to next week on Dunstone Down Widecombe (see map) on down the Rugglestone Inn Hare Slip on Me.
Our Sangria waiting in the rain....
