Outside the Dartmouth in Totnes, in the freezing night cold air stood 28
hashers waiting to circle up. Good to see Whisperer again. I arrived
and called them up quickly so as not to hang about in the chilly air
longer than we had to. Few quick notices then handed over to the Hare
Wigwam assisted by his noble aid Mouldy Dick.
We all set off along
the road at the first check most people set off the wrong way until the
hare called them back. After fighting my way through the mass
of injured or aged walkers. I then went the wrong way at the next
check! And found myself at the back of the pack again. I never saw Melon
Picker again as I went short and I suppose he went long! Up, up, up we
went higher and higher until at the top we stopped at view point to
admire the snow on Dartmoor. (Unfortunately, as it was dark we couldn’t
see a thing!) here we met Mouldy handing out oxygen. After passing 2
bail out options Georgie and Piltdown were going to short cut back to
town, but Mouldy persuaded them to keep on going as it was flatter now.
We crossed two roads then on to the sweetie stop where Wigwam was
waiting in the dark. After a couple of quick liquorice allsorts Fallen
Women and I continued on down the long dark lane back into the top of
town then back down through the high street to Morrisons car park. The
longs went out further and came back along the muddy river.
Back in
the Dartmouth inn a get well card was being sent round for everyone to
sign to wish Wide Receiver a speedy recovery after his nasty fall on
Wednesday. Eventually Melon Picker arrived, last one back to pub, so
down downs could commence - which got a bit stupid with everyone giving
them away and nominating someone else, so I couldn’t really tell who had
been awarded them. I think Able had one, for not getting one last week!
Georgie and Wet Johnny for Birthdays this week. Wet Johnny drank his
from his wellie! And I think wigwam had one for being Hare. Who ended up
drinking them all? Who knows!
Apart from that, a great trail thank
you Hares, good food in the pub and another lovely Teign Valley evening.
Onon till next week
