Hash Trail Run 1631 from The Smugglers Inn Holcombe where the pack
gathered for Hare yours truly Winfield's early spring trail. With a
bright almost full moon shining out from over the calm sea, I was
convinced that nothing could possibly go wrong after all that marking
but oh dear it did ! Present at the Circle were those intrepid Fire
Walkers Soapy, Zoot Migman and Peanut showing no signs of the painfully
sounding walk across those incredibly hot coals but they did it and
raised £842 for Cancer Research, cheque to be presented to the charity
at next week's Hash. On-On with the trail leading the Long around the
Coastal Footpath, while the short headed towards Lee Mount and down
along the sea wall to Coast Guards bridge with the Long going further on
to the Rockstone bridge. Heading inland now weaving through the back
alleys the Short headed for the Sweet Stop high up at the Clump of Firs
the “Seven Sisters” with great views and eager Hasher’s waiting for
those Sweets. From up here it should have been all down hill and “plain
sailing” to the On Home, but I later learnt that somehow part of the
Short missed a check near the church and carried on regardless on an
extra mile unmarked detour. While at the tail end of the Long SQUASH
BALLS, DORIS and S/MELLIE did a detour on an old Aquathon marked route,
before reaching the Firs then somehow followed back down via the Short
up trail to where they started at Gatehouse Farm ! now completely lost
they asked for directions or a lift without success, later stopping
another car which turned out to be the same one who’s driver who now in
Pyjamas (early morning shift) was heading to Teignmouth to collect son
and agreed to get them all Home! Other than all that it had gone very
well ?? The Smugglers has a great Carvery which the owner had kept open
later for us and provided plates of Roast Potatoes with gravy which kept
appearing until we could eat no more! Down Downs were awarded to these
offenders :-
Migman for his part in raising funds in the Fire Walk
Twin Buffers for no Torch and setting a new record in slow drinking!
Mellon Picker " not my lost glove" but it had his name in it!
Plitdown Man- spotted facing the wrong way in Rent Boys wedding group photo.
Shrivel Dick- His Birthday and a 50 Runs Badge.
