TVH3 # 1655 on Mon 5th September at the Tradesmans Arms, Scorriton for
Hare Wigwam's Trail. We did all eventually find this although my Satnav
took me up the wrong turning in Buckfastleigh.
A good Hash turnout on this cloudy muggy evening as we listened to several announcements about Beerfest's, Hares needed for October and there was more? WIGWAM described the Trails with Long, Med. and Short options, marks on left on some, on the right on the others... we were almost lost already! On On and we were even running for a short distance before on a long steady climb, which was part of the Two Moors Way. AVATAR was soon tiring but WOODWORM came to his rescue with a fireman's lift! up and up we marched until there was a chance to run just before we went downhill at last to Chalk Ford, but this was followed by a final steep climb up into the mist on Buckfastleigh Moor. We were all very spread out now as we wound our way across the Moor following a well marked trail to The Lud Gate, down hill now on a tricky stoney dark track, just the place for one of my trip ups ! Torches were certainly needed here. From ahead torches spotted coming back ?? “ Cross at the bottom” was the word as they came puffing back up. Fortunately some were just at that spot where there was an almost hidden signpost pointing the way across a farmyard and out onto open fields. Now was at last a chance for some good running, even a chance for FUKAWE and I to admire the great views, before we were back into darkness picking our way carefully over another stoney track down through Lakemoor Wood. At the little hamlet of the Higher Coombe there finally was WIGWAM with some sweets to revive us, as the heat of the night was now certainly coming through! On On to the final L/S split I chose Short here not wishing to push my luck any more, with a final uphill before meeting up with ZEN just before Scorriton, while the Longs headed on somewhere?
The landlord of the Tradesmans Arms had laid on Chips at a great price which were eagerly consumed by the hungry pack also the “Down Down” beers which were awarded to :-
GEORGY-P-ORGY for allowing her dog “Choco” to chew through Piltdown's PC cable ( Georgy could not drink so PILTDOWN had to drink up himself !)
SADDLE-SORE for slowly counting out all her change to hopefully buy some chips.
Tanya named SQUELCHER (still very wet from the warm run) after forgetting her change of clothes.
No.69 who rode his m/cycle to Hash, recognised immediately on the way by some by the size of his legs!
Well done to WIGWAM for a great trail and evening
On to next week at The Teign House Inn, Teign Valley, Hares:- No.69 & Slacker
On On
WINFIELD
Here Wigwam trying to remember were the marks are on the left or on the right? + UBend and I finally reaching Buckfastleigh Moor !
