Mon 24th TVH3 #1688 at the Haldon Belvedere CP, Haldon for Hare Damp
Patch's trail. Haldon Belvedere, or Lawrence Castle as it was originally
known, built in 1788 by the Clifford family, later owned and remodelled
by Sir Robert Palk of the East India Company as a memorial to his
friend Major-General Stringer Lawrence with whom he had been associated
in India.
This evening it was the TVH3 pack who were about to invade the Castle grounds, after welcoming two “virgin” Hashers Sam
and Kathy then following a briefing from the Hare we set off around the
Castle grounds with its rhododendrons now fortunately just past their
best, over and under the folly's bridge and moat, onto road for a short
distance before entering Haldon Forest where we followed a well marked
trail through the deep woodland along narrow tracks uphill and down
dale. DAMPY had given us three L/S splits which had us circling round
back to the short one almost sending us around twice!
Again later
we found ourselves back at the same spot heading along the same trail
but DRAG ACT and WOOF WOOF were convinced that this was correct,
although some were not so sure and the pack split up rather than take a
chance on another circuit!
DRAG ACT was right as most Harriet's are!
as the trail finally led us on to the Sweet Stop with a great view over
Exeter. It was past 8:30 now and heading on through the forest RAMBO'S
warning for torches was proving correct as we finally reached the CP in
the fading light.
Back down hill in the Bishop Lacey at Chudleigh it
was time for the excellent fish and chip supper and a drink, before the
DD's commenced with the first one going to :-
FUKAWE for making an indecent proposal to a Harriet.
WIDE RECEIVER falling asleep and being late after selling all those cars.
KATRINA now christened WET BUSH after making a pit stop!
KATHY a welcoming DD from the Pack.
...and just as FUKAWE thought we had forgotten a birthday DD for his 00th ??
Well done DAMP PATCH for an excellent trail and evening.
On to next week at the Cridford Inn Trusham. Hare: Forrest Stump and his dog!
