#1705 Monday 28th Aug. the “Rail and Beer Festival Hash” from Staverton
Railway Station, with Hare's Bobbiball & Hunk o' Beef, although the
Beer Festival had finished, by Circle time there was still plenty of
beer left waiting for us to drink!
At our Circle, on the station platform, in the absence of GM Piltdown who was somewhere with the Norfolk Broads! It was my pleasure to welcome the pack along with the returning Flying Pig and Ollie.
Vice GM's question when did this branch line from Totnes to Ashburton open, many dates called but not the correct one of... 1872!
Bobbiball's well marked “Trail of the Year” led us out over the ancient Staverton Bridge followed by an almost circular route around the North Wood hill fort woodland, as I was not in running mode last night I joined up with Bobbi and that FRB? Teapot
As we circled round on what Bobbi thought was a shorter route to get to the Sweet Stop by the river, it wasn’t very long before the Longs caught us up, “don't worry” said Bobbi they have another long Split to run yet, we WILL be there first! But soon again the “On On” calls came closer and louder as they closed in “how did that happen” said Bobbi it took me be hours to mark that trail!
Soon we were down on the shingle beach of the river Dart at the Sweet Stop, from here the trail direction was a wade across the river, “It isn’t very deep” said Bobbi but you did have to choose your path with care.
Arfanar was concerned as she didn’t want to get her car keys wet! others took off shoes and socks some had even removed their trousers! before crossing. In the deep a few brave souls swam to the rope swing while others just enjoyed a swim before we headed On Home on the final stretch through the woodlands and over the Weir.
After so many messages concerning food, the tables in the station were soon laden with a huge selection of everything including sandwiches, pizza, scones, chocolate, beef, even grapes this was probably the best and biggest buffet we had faced for a long time.
The beer was excellent and the lucky few even got a free one for their sins:-
Mrs SHEEN for taking off her trousers to cross the river.
SLIP on Me for heading into the Gents toilet!
THREESOME who's overheard conversation was most revealing?
S.M.ELLIE at last has a TVH3 50Runs badge to start her collection,
Well done the Hares and the SDR management for an excellent evening.
On to next week at The Bridford Inn, Bridford with Hare: Deep Semen
