It was #1704 on Mon 21st Aug. when we circled up in the Obelisk CP,
Mamhead, a great turnout on a warm sunny evening for a change! with
great expectation on a trail laid by Hares BOGGY and GROMIT.
GM'S question...what stone is the Obelisk made of ?? no correct answers..Portland Stone!
Good to see the return of CJ and SARAH, also BETHANY (a junior POLLFELLA) who was given the full welcoming treatment, unlike BLUEBIRD who's we saved for later!
On-On along the pairs trail, which after seeing the scratches on BOGGY'S legs made us wonder what we might getting into as we headed on into the forest, then out again on a track with great views towards Dawlish and the sea.
There were certainly plenty of checks to deal with on this trail which certainly slowed the FRB'S. We trekked across a big forest clearance area with plenty of gulleys and rocks to scramble down and over, trying to identify white flour amongst those white stones was certainly a problem!
Next we were slipping and sliding across and down a steep forest slope where the tree that offered support promptly snapped off in your hand, this was certainly going to be a survival trail with plenty of shiggy.
Eventually after huffing ans puffing up a steep slope we finally reached the Obelisk view point with some excellent and much needed cider Jaffa cakes etc. plus a good spot for a group photo, as the sun set slowly or was it an eclipse? over Exmouth below us.
Soon on-on once more with again some great false trails which even I with plenty of previous running here fell for! Then into that area of low branches and brambles where Boggy probably received those scratches and so did I as I certainly felt them later!
It was soon On Home just as setting sun was about to set below Haldon Forest.
Most made it back to the OD at the Bishop Lacey where a beer and the Fish & Chip supper were much appreciated.
Down Down awards were given to the following lucky Hashers!
BLUEBIRD in those dazzling trousers for calling “So long suckers” before going the wrong way!
ZOOT her 100Runs badge at long last!
HOTLIPS his 100Runs badge to keep her company of course.
Well done to the Hares for an excellent trail in the area we thought we knew so well!
