On Monday 15th Jan.it was Run 1725
from The Claycutters Arms Chudleigh Knighton with Hare's Soapy & Mellon Picker.
In parking my vehicle I nearly chose the spot by the entrance, but good
job I didn't, as a “black van man” reversed his van into Fukawe's car
parked in just that spot later!
It was a damp cold evening as we
Circled up with a great turnout, including one Virgin Hasher plus the
return of Rent Boy and Last of the Mohican's although HE was still in the pub!
Piltdowns question which building firm had gone bust... although we all
knew the answer, he carried on with who was the sister of Stan from “On
the Buses” Olive! said Zoot winning yet another free drink!.
On-On now along the pairs trail which we had been told had three L/S splits and a Sweet Stop.
It could get technical in some places warned Mellon Picker, as we
circled around the village, not sure if the first technical test was a
“litchen” covered pavement where an unsuspecting Rambo skidded down
heavily!
We moved on, after placing bins over the offending area,
still not in running mode I was confined to a brisk walking pace as we
moved on past the playground up onto Knighton Heath.
At Dunley Cross
the trail was nearly lost before we headed into the wood land, water
and mud! And somewhere ahead found the Sweet Stop.
I was told it had
been an excellent trail which Hunk o' Beef had recorded as a 4.1 miler
(see his map) but regretfully I was not able to complete all of it :(
Back in the Claycutters it was much warmer and there was some good vege or chicken curry
to warm our insides followed by a slice of Soapy's excellent cake.
Time for the Down-Downs which were awarded to.....
BLUEBIRD for wearing that ridiculous black and red outfit!
FUKAWE for parking his car in the van's way!
BOBBIBALL in amazement his 700 runs badge
MELLON PICKER for putting us through all of that mud!
SOAPY her Birthday song and our thanks for the cake! and the trail.
Well done the Hares for an excellent evening.
On to next week at the Dartmouth Inn, Totnes with Hare: Wet Johnny
