How
many L/S provides 3 distances-?
GM Question of the week...."
8th Jan Parker’s Arms, Collaton St Mary, Wigwam
A cold night but dry and the wind had dropped.
25 runners/walkers' political interest was tested by the GM.
Obviously we aren't bothered cos no one knew who the newly appointed Chairman of the Conservative Party is.
The hare advised three long short splits offering 1.5 / 3.5 / and 4.5 mile options. An interesting trail led us up to the top of the hill opposite the pub and along an old cart track. Crossing a couple of fields we descended into Westerland Valley and around the old reservoir site. A devious water crossing got everyones feet wet whilst the hare showed his amusement from the opposite river bank. A stiff climb out of the valley led to the 2nd long short split. (The 1st L/S had been obliterated by fun loving kids, though it was found by Bobbiball by accident.). Long took us up to the 5 lanes just below the Beacon Hill aerial then down past the farm to Blagdon Lane. Shorts followed the lane down to Angel cottages and then along the footpaths back to Collaton and the warmth of the pub. Definitely the second best trail so far this year.
Hunkabeef recorded the full run (including an extra detour) as 5.7 miles. Okay the trail wasn't bad but WOW the food was awesome. A terrific spread with homemade quiche and cold cuts, sandwiches, chips, spuds etc. etc.
Manpig guested as RA for the evening giving us his proud performance of "Mrs Murphy" and awarding several down downs.
Thanks everyone for braving a chilly night.
