GM Piltdowns question for the previous name of the pub went unanswered, having been lost in time, but after research it had been The Country House in 1863 a bit before my time!
After the Piddler studied their instructions, the trail was going have 3 L/S splits, cannot remember how many miles had been planned but according to Beefy's Strava map it was 7.8! …with no Sweet Stop? most unusual as Piddler was always first into the bags at most trails!
Off we set with Georgy's grandsons charging along excitedly echoing the On-On calls, after a back check we crossed to a hidden Foot Path. This lead us across fields into Oaklands Wood where the pair had laid the trail through the deepest undergrowth they could find.
Finally we were out onto John Nash Drive, where Going Down kept tight control over the FRB's who had sped off in all directions “the marks are back here” she demaded repeatedly as the pack charged past several turns in the Oaklands Estate with its maze of alleys and steps.
Back though the woods again with several falling over the roots! before we out onto Holcombe Lane, heading now towards the bridal tracks, that took the FRB's up and over to Teignmouth, before tracking back towards Holcombe. The final “sting in the trail” awaited here, leading them up and up around the Coastal Footpath behind the Smugglers.
Inside the Smugglers Inn there was a welcoming roaring fire, some excellent food and drinks on offer, the helpful owner, even offered some roasties with gravy to the hungry pack.
Hashers were busy filling in their AWARDS VOTING FORMS ready for 26th Feb, but once Piddler and Going Down had reappeared from their camper van it was time for the DDs which were awarded to....
