On # 1742 it was Able's Birthday Trail,
14th May from the Victory Hall Kenton Kenton
Hares Able Semen & Winfield
As we stood near the CP entrance at 7:10pm to direct Hashers, we agreed
that probably choosing this venue had been a mistake, but slowly and
steadily the cars arrived, some braking hard as they spotted us.When Circle up was finally called a head count revealed 42 Hashers were present (well
done all !) Piltdowns Eurosong question who was...the first dictator of
Portugal! ….that being António Salazar, was beyond us all.
Doris
informed us that the June diary Trails were complete and was now looking
for July and August Hares, so get your maps out while summer is still
here!
After the Hares trail info. it was On-On down Slittercombe
Lane to the first Split with the Short heading through the wood towards
the Powderham Deer park, while the Longs stretched their legs out along a
mile loop through Powderham Saw Mills.
After disturbing a couple
who were enjoying the peace a quiet of the countryside on this beautiful
evening, we climbed over the hill to some great views over the Exe then
down to the Sweet Stop on Powderham Village Green just as the Long
re-joined us. It was here that Teapot was grasped by a lady from the
nearby cottage...was this one of his many ex girlfriends??
It looked
like the start of a road race with a road full of runners as we headed
on towards Powderham Church, which was once on the bank of the river
after erosion. This church St Clements has much history, the south porch
is very old; the sanctuary ring on the outside of the door is history
in itself and well worth a visit.
Moving on we races, ran, and
walked along Exe Valley Way eventually tuning on a footpath across the
Castle Estate, another split took the M&L over the road and around
the cornfields to the back of Kenton village where there was an almost
hidden footpath to O/H, but some I hear missed it and did extra mileage
excellent!
There was a great atmosphere inside the old Dolphin Inn,
as the pack swapped stories, enjoying the food and drink after an
evening out in the sunny scenic countryside...and of course there was
Able's own lemon drizzle Birthday cake to eat, kindly handed around by
Pisswell.
Down Downs were awarded to the following offenders...
TEAPOT who received a surprise embrace from an ex-girlfriend?
COLDTITZ who tried to award the Pillock shirt but lost it, so another DD
ROXANNE who asked Forrest if he was putting on a Condom!
MELON PICKER awarded his 800Runs badge at long last!
ABLE SEMEN her Birthday DD and song we never knew how old!
We hope you enjoyed the trail and helped make it a great evening
