Shame on
you all staying home, you missed an enjoyable hash shared by 16 jolly
Hashers. Our numbers were swollen by Ever Ready from Aberdeen, following
on from ISCA's amazing Roman Away Day weekend, Wormwood, Avatar &
Grim from Ashburton & Damp Patch back from his adventures in Hong
Kong. Rambo had covered 6.5 miles Sunday laying the trail but as
expected it had all washed away. In fact on Monday, starting a fresh lay
at 5, on return at 7 the first marks
had already washed away! So on to our cunning plan B. We had a core 2.75
mile loop across to Halwall Lawn and back to Houndtor. Along the route
there were 5 fish hooks, well there had been but the first crucial one
was washed out! Anyway, the idea was for the whole pack to turn tail
and run back to the last runner. When the fastest returned, those
looping back could turn back on the forward direction as the fastest
went back past them. That way the slowest kept to 2.75 miles whilst the
fastest clocked up to 4.5 miles (except for Damp Patch who had already
run up to Houndtor from Manaton - he must be raining for
something.....40b440 cums to mind). It made a refreshing change to
splash through puddles and shiggy rather than the rock hard ground of
late.
The pack gathered for sweets and photo at the regroup and then ran on to the last fish hook.
Back at Kestor Inn, Maurice & staff made us very welcome and we enjoyed good food, beer and cheer.
Down Downs went to Saffron & Sarah for discussing on trail how
older men's appendages got smaller. Obviously I am not old yet! Also to
our visitors Ever Ready & Wormwood.
On On to next week's trail at the Tin, Pickle & Rhum bar at Moorland Hotel, Haytor. Hare Winfield
