Yours truly Winfield's Hash trail 1651 on
Monday 8th Aug was from a new On Down “The Tin Pickle & Rhum Bar” in
the Moorlands Hotel Haytor. It had been a long day out on Dartmoor
laying then relaying the flour that various animals had decided to eat,
but there was a good turnout of Hashers later that evening with
returning members, several virgin Hashers and visitors to make it all
worthwhile. After a photo call it was off on Trail towards Haytor
Quarry with a Sweet Stop here, but
no-one was prepared to swim, except the dogs! On-On and winding through
the gorse and heather the pack headed to Quarry No 2 this required a
careful decent ( asked by foreign visitors earlier if this was a natural
feature ?) "hope you told them it was one their bomb holes said TEAPOT"
. After the quarry and tramway entrance it was out onto open Moorland
with several L/S splits and a walking route option which was taken by
some following back along the old granite tramway. The Longs headed on
trail through the bracken at a good pace firstly to Smallacombe Rocks
then on to Hole Rock with some great views from here. As I watched them
heading on so easily, I realised that maybe I should after all have made
this trail a lot longer ? With RISE N' SHINE now we cut across on a
Short route dodging the Horses Cattle and Sheep as we headed back
towards the On Home only just making it before the tail enders arrived.
The Moorland Hotel a residence where Agatha Christie penned her first
novel has new owners, who had arranged an excellent tasty buffet for us
in their Tin Pickle and Rhum bar . The Down Down awards for the evening
went to
WINFIELD who's marking error led Damp Patch into gorse bushes
Naming s for Saffron now SPICE GIRL and horse lover Sarah to be SADDLE SORE
WORM WOOD was petrified of being bitten by the bracken Ticks
No 69 for incorrectly ageing SLIP-on-ME
Hope you all enjoyed the evening my legs did not!
WINFIELD.
On to next at Bonehill Rocks CP, OD Rugglestone, Widecombe, Slip on me & Brenda
