Mon 24th TVH #1662 at the Obelisk CP, Mamhead, where after a
dreadfully wet day we were driving up through thick low clouds to get to
the CP on Great Haldon for Hare's Zoot & Hotlips Trail.
As we
gathered it was revealed that HOTLIPS had tripped heavily damaging his
ankle which due to severe pain and swelling needed medical attention
ASAP so after briefing WIDE RECEIVER re the trail they headed off to the
nearest hospital.
At our Circle joining us for the first time was
MURRAY introduced by PEANUT and the returning DING DONG. The Hares had
done an excellent job in marking, then remarking the trail after that
heavy rain and we were soon On On heading towards the Obelisk, where
bright torches were certainly needed to spot any obstacles amongst the
many leaves.
The pairs well marked trail led us along the open
tracks from here diverting the Long / Short and Walkers on different
paths through the forest with WIDE somewhere ahead on the Long calling
“On-On”, a check soon brought us back together onto a rougher track
where DRAG ACT just behind me tripped and fell (I certainly know only
too well what this feels like) picking herself up and brushing herself
off she moved on.
Another check and on Long through the trees we
were onto the road and over a bank into a long marshy water logged
section with SHRIVEL ahead and DING DONG just behind with her dog bell
jingling reminding me of a Santa Run. On-On and after going back over
the road and more checks I found myself back on the tracks that I used
to run on in those serious training days.
Somewhere near ZIG ZAG
wood we stopped for sweets but the Short had already gone. Heading on at
a good pace around the open tracks and nearly On Home, ahead was a
large camper van and car! ...were the Doggers now spreading further into
the forest?...some severe barking told me-no! just a Husky team
preparing for a night run along those tracks. Pacing on now we finally
reached the CP where there were certainly more cars than before
gathering for their evenings entertainment?
Back to Chudleigh and
the Bishop Lacey OD where the usual excellent Fish and Chips were on
offer, GEORGY P was doing a great job selling Party tickets while SATNAV
was steadily selling Christmas draw numbers before the DD's began. The
first award from SHRIVEL to me
WINFIELD was for running too fast...well hat makes a change after months of injury!
Next one to DRAG ACT for joining the evenings injury list with a nasty cut on her elbow.
Next up was virgin Hasher Murray who we decided to immediately name
WONKY CHOPPER as this tree surgeon had earlier nearly cut his arm off.
Last one going to another injured Hasher BOBBI BALL with cracked ribs
from falling off his bike ...but his partner DOZY PARROT drank up for
him.
Well done ZOOT and HOTLIPS for setting up a great evening, we all hope he will soon be able to be back with us.
On to next week Dress for a Halloween Hash Trail from Route 5 Dinner,
Haldon Hill, OD Bishop Lacey, Chudleigh, Hares:-Bogof, Rambo Doris
On-On
WINFIELD
Not sure what this Hat is/was before the Hash got hold of it ??
