Having tried to squeeze my vehicle up some of the narrowest streets of Brixham to reach it, my patience was not up the next challenge of parking between the marker posts of the Sailing Clubs parking spaces. Circle up with a freezing wind blowing in on us off of the sea, but good to see the return of STUNG-DOWN-UNDER, before we headed off on the Pairs 5 miler, which lead up the well worn town steps then down those narrow streets to the Harbour, the next part was a long up hill gasping run, if you could keep it going! The well marked trail at this point lead us eventually onto the Berry Head Country Park, with great views over the sea, on a bright starry night, as we ran along the cliff top path over several stone stiles onto the Headland then On again until we reached the woodland around the aircraft beacon. Here the trail just disappeared amongst the leaves or had been eaten? Fortunately FALLEN WOMAN appeared leading us confidently back to the correct track.
But as often happens when you try retrace your trail it never looks the same going the other way! So after back tracking some distance then going forward again we were eventually On Trail with ARCHANGEL now finding himself the leading FRB well at least for 31 SECONDS! before another X appeared!
Winding our way on on through the woods on a great trail we eventually hit tarmac at The Berry Head Hotel, from here it was a long good paced run around the harbour and back to the CP.
As we had passed the Hares abode on trail earlier, we were soon back inside with a roaring log fire to warm us up, the beer was excellent, but the fish & chips delivered with mushy peas were even better and soon devoured by the hungry pack. Time for the Down Down’s which were warded to:-
WIDE RECEIVER for breaking a glass on the floor of Fallen Woman's kitchen.
ARCHANGEL (again) for lasting at least 31 seconds?....at the head of the pack!
FALLEN WOMAN for losing her own trail.
STUNG-down-UNDER for returning at last to the TVH3 Pack.
Well done to Fallen Woman and Broken Man for a great evening.
On to next week at The Artichoke, Christow, joint trail with HaldonH3. Hare: Forrest Stump & Slacker, £3 donation for Kim's treatment with free food from the Pub
