#1699! from The London Inn, Shaldon with Hares:-PILTDOWN MAN &
GEORGIE P’ORGY with a good turnout on a bright sunny evening. GM
PILTDOWN welcomed two virgin Harriet's ANNIE and FLUER, before
delivering his latest Quiz Question “in what year did a sailor leave
Teignmouth for a round the world race” 1968 was the correct answer given
by POLLYFELLA for his prize pint, the sailor being Donald Crowhurst.
The pairs trail which was a testing up and downer, led us firstly around the village and up into Homeyards Botanical Gardens, once the private garden of William Homeyard the inventor of Liquifruta cough syrup, it is believed that the couple often brought workers from the factory on holiday to Shaldon.
We were not coughing now but soon gasping! as we climbed up and up through woods, on lanes to meet GEORGIE on Picket Head Hill with her Chocolate dipped strawberries Yum!
Next it was on down and down towards Ringmore with a L/S split, taking the Long group that included WIDE, FLOWERY, FLUER, FUKAWE, HUNK/BEEF, POLLYFELLA and I, back up and up again to Ringmore Heights, followed by a down down trail on the old Dagra Lane to finally meet the River Teign, but as the tide was in it had to be a final road run back into Shaldon.
After reviving ourselves from this epic trek, above us before a gathering storm, was a very bright double rainbow (note the inverted colours) pointing itself to just about where we had been.
This was the signal for the Down Downs which were awarded to :-
FLOWERY TWATS always seems to get one on his return, for naming his relative STIFFY
SLIP-on-ME suggesting that a note dropped by SATNAV had something to do with STI.
BOBBIBALL drinking happily in the pub while WIGWAM wanted to get into the car
PLITDOWN MAN getting the tide times wrong and his 300 RUNS badge.
Well done PILTDOWN and GEORGIE for an excellent evening and that rainbow!
On to next week 17/07/17 Its our 1700th RUN from the Park Inn, Kingskerswell, Hare: Paraprick
On-On
WINFIELD
