Monday 23rd October Run 1713 from The Ship Inn Cockwood Harbour with Hare: Winfield
A good turnout by the Pack at this the most easterly edge of our area, on a very mild evening. It had been a challenge laying part of the trail on Sunday only get it washed away by overnight rain, then trying to preserve the remarking from the half term visitors and their dogs!
A welcome to all at our circle from Piltdown Man, who's question this week was the correct name and title for the current owner of Powderham Castle? Slip said Courtenay and I the Earl of Devon to win our drinks!
On-On the pack headed from the pub along into the woodland behind Cofton Church, passing the through the play area without pause, out into the Cofton Holiday Park, following the trail which hopefully did not disturb the many happy campers.
Wetfart was already complaining about the distance and we had barely gone half a mile! We were soon in the new Dawlish Country Park heading up to a high ridge while the Longs did a long loop giving the Short a chance catch up. How many more hills said Wetfart as he finally puffed his way up to the Sweet Stop.
The hungry pack had almost devoured all of the sweets, but just managed to hide the last few for the distant Doris and Coldtitz. The Short were now very keen to get on back asap taking the route back through the Eastdon Estate, while the Med and Longs circled on around before finally crunching up and down through the woodland on a bed of fallen chestnuts to try to catch them up.
I was pleased that the Short did find their way up another hill! to a footpath with views, before going down through the pine forest, as it was well worth a visit and hopefully still marked.
Apart from the aptly named Wet Johnny getting very muddy in the Cockwood Marsh, Doris nearly going the wrong way On Home and Wet Fart as usual looking for a flat short run it did I think all go to plan.
Back at The Ship Inn it was such a warm evening (still 16c later at 10pm) and probably the last warm one we will get! some were already dining outside on their Ham Egg & Chips special.
The Down Downs were also awarded outside to the following offenders:-
Archangel- Spotted dropping his pants for a wee!
Rambo – As Pollyfella's guest thought the Hash were Weirdos until he met Rambo!
Piltdown- Top prize at our bowling evening, but not so accurate now with his beer!
Shrivel Dick- At last his 100Runs badge.
Thanks for travelling to the East and trust that you all enjoyed the trail .
On to next week its The Halloween Hash at Highweek Village Inn, Highweek, Newton Abbot Hares: Soapy & Melon Picker ( Wear a Halloween costume that you can run in please)
On-On
