WILD GOOSE
We haven't been to the Goose for a bit and I for one was wondering what the new proprietors might have done to the quintessential country pub. Tasteless refurb? Opening up the bar space? Bickley Mill type plastic and blue lights? The reassuring answer to all questions was a firm NO and stepping inside you were transported into an ale supping, charismatic laden cubby hole of delight with plenty of seating at tables should you wish.
There were five beers available for us discerning GOBRAS to tempt and titillate the palate. The three judges appointed on the night were Wigwam, Fukarwi and Bluebird.
It was no contest for my first pint - the outstanding Dartmoor Legend 4.4, truly a benchmark for other beers to live up to and clear as a bell it was. However, Wigwam and Bobby had already cottoned on to the Sea Fury and were full of praise. A trial sip and I was converted, an instant heavy fruit taste with the hop and malt flavour hitting soon after.
Sharps Doom Bar 4.0 - a well known and reliable supping ale
Sharps Sea Fury 5.0 Clear winner on the night
Dartmoor Wild Goose 4.4 - variation of the Legend but slightly different recipe prepared for the rugby crowd
Dartmoor Jail Ale 4.8 - for the non drivers
Dartmoor Legend 4.4 - In its eighth year and a bootiful beer
all 3:90 except Doom Bar 3:80
